Sanctioned Servitude
The sun peeked through
Just enough to say hello to the morn
The empty tree branch
Tapped lightly against the broken window
While a faint whisper of the fall’s brisk
wind seeped through
Reminding me once again of your departure
A slave to the unavailable
I refuse to use the key
That dangles between you and freedom
Loneliness consumes me
Yet
I refuse
To escape
